THE BEST CAMERAS FOR CANVAS PRINTING
I am often asked, how many megapixels are needed for my camera to take pictures that can later be enlarged and printed on canvas for framing, especially to larger sizes, such as 36” x 36”, 44” x 44” etc. Well, the easy answer is the more megapixels the better for getting an enlarged canvas print. However, how many is really enough?
I recently read a statistic that stated that more than 50% of all internet activity is performed on smart phones and tablets, rather than traditional desktop computers. If this is true, it stands to reason that most people are also taking pictures on their smart phones and tablets. In fact, from my personal experience, a lot more people are using these devises to take pictures than using stand-alone digital cameras. In fact, with the exception of professional photographers, I would think that most of the artwork we receive here at On Canvas For You for enlarging and printing on canvas was taken on a smart phone or tablet.
Cell phones range in megapixels from 3.8 for an older phone all the way up to 16 megapixels. The I-Phone for example has 8. 3.8 is probably too low for blowing up to a larger canvas print, but 8 megapixels should be fine and 16 megapixels, as is found on some of the new android phones, is by far enough for any size canvas. In fact, up until a couple of years ago, 16 megapixels would have been state-of-the-art for a professional photographer’s digital camera.
So, snap away with those cell phones until you get the image you like. Send it to us and we will make it into a canvas or print work of art you can enjoy for years to come! All the best, John
